Our Water is Precious.
As we are all aware, water quality has made a bit of a splash in the media in recent years!
We at Cooks Beach Resort are rightly proud of our high water quality. We go to great lengths to ensure that the water you drink and cook with is of the highest quality possible.
To that end, we have invested in a state of the art water treatment plant. We make sure we have enough water and ensure that our water is safe to drink, shower and cook with from any tap in the resort.
The lime cliffs in our area provide natural filtration for the artesian reservoirs in Cooks Beach.
We operate 2 artesian wells on site, pumping water to a primary tank, from where it is filtered through 4 sand filters before being allowed to settle in 3 large holding tanks.
Before being available throughout the resort, it is passed through 2 UV treatment units which remove all biological matter from the water. It is once more filtered through two 10 micron filters removing any remaining trace elements. Only then will this unchlorinated, clean and clear water be available to all our guest from any tap in the resort.
ABOUT THE AREA
Cooks Beach is prestigious a small coastal settlement strung out along a wide sweeping beach frontage, and is bounded inland by the presence of foothills. The larger town of Whitianga is nearby, and access between the two settlements is via a short ferry trip across a channel inlet.
With Cooks Beach being so close to the township of Whitianga, 5 minutes by ferry ride, residents have available to them many shops, restaurants, utilities and services. The settlement is characterised by the presence of baches and holiday accommodation, with local stores, cafes, wineries and restaurants. Its population grows considerably during the summer months.
Boat launching ramps are available at Cooks Beach and sea related activities within the Mercury Harbour attracting a lot of people to the area. Cooks Beach has a very pleasant inlet and river at the south end of the settlement, and headlands at each end of the beach.
Cooks Beach is a short drive to the beautiful Hahei Beach, famous for Cathedral Cove and Hot Water Beach with its hot water bubbling from beneath the sand at low tide.
Hahei & Cathedral Cove
Accessible from Hahei beach or by boat, Cathedral Cove is a must see!
Situated in the Cathedral Cove Marine Reserve, Te Whanganui-A-Hei, it is one of the best places to snorkle and explore the reefs or just relax on the beautiful beach in the sun.
A truly unspoiled marine environment!
Hot Water Beach
If your in the Coromandel the Hot Water Beach is an attraction you don't want to miss!
Geothermal water bubbles up through the sand from a warm underground river making it the perfect place to dig a natural hot pool.
Hire a spade from the Resort office, and head on down 2 hours before low tide, dig yourself a hole and relax until 2 hours after low when the water starts to cool.
The tide washes away any holes dug each day so everyone gets a chance to dig their own! A uniquely Kiwi experience.
